Re: Should I Save Virtual Instruments on mac or external hard drive?
All plugins should be in the plugins folder which is in your system drive. Samples, for any VI's that use them, should be stored on a seperate drive.

Re: Should I Save Virtual Instruments on mac or external hard drive?
Thanks for the response. Yes I know the folder is in the system drive, but I want to install the VI's but don't know if I should save the VI's on the system or my external hard drive. I'm new to mac and PT. Note: I swapped my system HD to a solid state HD and using the ordinary system as my external hard drive (500 GB).

Re: Should I Save Virtual Instruments on mac or external hard drive?
The external drive should not have your system folder, or any OS related stuff on it. It should only have your samples on it. The VI plugins should only be installed on your actual system drive, which is the internal drive.

Re: Should I Save Virtual Instruments on mac or external hard drive?
Well I put in the pro tools 10 software into my dvd drive. I already installed the pro tools 10 software. Now I want to install the VI, I double click on it the icon but I decided not to because I wasn't sure if I should install the files/VI's on my mac hard drive or external hard drive. Can I manage the installation, like the VI's on my internal drive and the samples on the external? If so, how can I do that? Sorry for the questions, I'm new to the installation process. I went audio school on how to work with pro tools but they never showed us the installation process (iar.edu).

What about being told that you should install the VI program on your internal drive do you not understand? That is the only place that anyone has told you that it should go. Have you read the replies?

Re: Should I Save Virtual Instruments on mac or external hard drive?
Spinner or ssd?
WD Black for spinners Samsung 850 Pro or Evo for ssd A lot depends on the size of the vi libraries being used and how much you're willing to spend. And of course you have to take overprovisioning into account. Ping Darryl Ramm for ssd recommendations. |
