Default Success with Apogee AD-16x and HDX?

Hi Folks,

I'm upgrading my HD system to HDX. I have an Apogee AD-16x and according to Apogee they have firmware that makes the AD-16x compatible with HDX. Before I go this route, is there anyone who has had success with this setup? If so, is there anything I need to be aware of? I'm also planning to get an Apogee DA-16x to complete the setup. Thanks.

Mark

I'm using it on Mac with HDX and it works fine. You have to have the Apogee X-HD card in the AD16-x which when you update the firmware makes it appear to be an Avid HD I/O.

The Apogee AD/DA I/O's in my opinion are the absolute best deals out there right now!

Hi Steve, the AD16x appears just fine as an HD I/O but it only shows digital inputs available! I have it hooked up to the 2nd port on the HDX card with the HD I/O on the first. Any ideas? I'm running Pro Tools 12.3 with OS 10.10.5. Thanks!

It's such a long time since I set mine up, but check the manual for the X-HD card (should be able to download from Apogee), there may be a configuration choice to make about how the interface appears?

I use both the AD-16x and the DA-16x as a pair and they are configured so that the Analog I/O appears together and the Digital I/O appears together, basically the AD-16x has 16 Ch Analog inputs and 16 Ch Digital Outputs (as 8 stereo pairs). The DA-16x has the opposite, 16 Ch Analog Outs and 16 Ch Digital Ins. If I remember correctly (and it was a long time ago!) there is some config set-up that puts the Analog IO and the Digital IO together so that you can use them as hardware inserts, perhaps your issue has to do with how that config is set up. Sorry I can't be more specific, but as I said, find the X-HD card manual online and that should get you sorted. Hopefully!

Be careful, apogee has 2 modes about routing
standard routing and advanced routing.
If you want to use both analog and digital Ins and Outs of your AD16x and DA16x through ProTools you have to set ADVANCED ROUTING.
You can do that by pressing a key during switch on the unit.
You can find the right button on the user manual, sorry I don't remember wich one is to press.
Best Regards
Alberto
