Default Rail, please help ! Mp3 bounce wrong !!!

Hi Rail,

I've experienced a real weirdness today when I tried to bounce some audio loop to .mp3.
Here's what happened :
I've made an audio loop (20sec of amb) for a video game : when I hit play, it loops perfectly.
The session is 48khz, 24bit, delay compensation on, but the files have to be delivered in .mp3 (128/44.1Khz) ;
When importing back the bounce into the session, I've noticed around 1200 samples of blank or "quasi-fade" at the beginning of the audio region !
I've checked with a .wav bounce of the same region, imported it into my session : the problem has disappeared !!!
I've also tried to use iTunes to export the .wav bounce to .mp3 with the same result : a quasi-fade at the beginning
I don't know what it could be...tried other sample rates with no success...
Here's my setup :
G4 2X1.33
Os X.4.2
1,25g ram
PT 6.9.3cs2
QT 7.0.3 Pro
Itunes 6.0.1

What do you think ?

Best regards,

Olivier

I'm not Rail but I can tell you, in my experience, using .mp3 for seamless loops is next to impossible. I have done a lot of game audio and have never been able to make it work right.

For some reason there is always some sort of hiccup introduced in the conversion process to .mp3 so there will always be a pause or glitch when it loops.

EDIT: Just so you know, this isn't a ProTools issue. No matter which application you use for conversion you will always get the silence at the beginning of the .mp3 file.

Thanks guys !

That answers my question, but what would you do if there isn't enough space for the project on a CD and they won't release it on DVD ?
There has to be a way to loop mp3's of some sort....
Best,
A.

You can look into using the .ogg format. You can loop that and it has great a compression ratio. They just have to be able to play it back in the game.

would wave files do?

20 sec's of a mono wav at 16/44 is 1.68MB

20 sec's of a stereo wav at 16/44 is 3.368MB
