Default Poor Man\'s HD Rig...

Quote:
The HD core card can handle the Mix buss, PDC, track count etc and the CPUs can handle the RTAS plugins. And after you have a core system paid for and going, adding an Accel card would be a bit easier money wise then trying to buy all of it at once.

I would love to start a discussion about this.....

While everyone is contemplating the notion of a "poor man's HD rig", consider this:

We want it for the 48bit mixer and the TDM II mostly. (outlined by the white papers)

QUESTION: Are we still going to achieve the same benefits of HD if we are using mostly RTAS plugins? (We will be mostly relying on host power and hence not the exquisite TDM II to the 48bit HD mixer.)

I am not sure that the sonic quality will be as high as a HD session using TDM plugins instead. How do RTAS plugins perform compared to TDM? I have a hunch that it isnt as glamorous for RTAS as the white papers talk about for TDM.

Please please please prove me wrong so I can get my own "poor man's HD rig" in good conscience!

Thanks Guys,

Justin

Discussed here.

And here.

And you've probably been here already.

Hope that helps.
