Default Jump up to 7.4?

Hey all,
I've been sitting tight at 7.1 (with the latest cs update) happily, and stably (is that a word?) so. Haven't really delved into the bells and whistles on 7.4 -- I hear people are going [bleep] over the time stretch capabilities, etc.

I'm an 002 user and just wanted to know of experiences -- good or bad -- in making the jump up. Also, I admit I've been really slack, what's the pricing for a jump up? I know I can do searches, I just wanted to some real world experiences to temper my judgment and expectations. Everything's just so solid and stable right now, I'm just curious as benefits involved in making the step up.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Wheels

75.00 to upgrade from anything earlier than 7.3.

Like any new release its never a bad thing to wait for a cs update or two. (usually the most stable version of PT is the one you just upgraded from)

Elastic audio is part of PT now and since it can't be disabled you might as well jump on the band wagon.

I haven't got into elastic audio of 7.4 yet, but 7.3 introduced new looping and zooming features which were a jump from 7.1. IMO, made Pro Tools a lot better.

Check these videos of the new features in 7.3, might help you decide. There are also videos of 7.4 features on the digidesign site, but I couldn't find them.

Hi !
I have two systems- PT 7.1 with the latest update I use in my main studio, and 7.3.1 cs5 on my portable system. I upgraded my main system ( 002 R plus iMac ) to 7.3,back in July or so ,and it gave me so many problems, that I had to downgrade back to 7.1 ( the stable one ). However I did upgrade to 7.3.1.on my Mac Book Pro with mBox. The cs5 upgrade solved lots of issues (common start/stop problem etc.). I'm actually considering to upgrade back to 7.3.1.cs5 on my main system now, after I tested it on my portable one. My practical advice is: if you have TWO independent systems- go for it on one of them! I heard good comments about new 7.4 features. but if you have only one system, and you do studio work with deadlines to meet, I would wait some time after some bugs are found and fixed with new upgrades. Usually two-three months period of time would be sufficient ( beta testers are working around a clock as we speak !). Good luck !

Thanks for the insight, Chris, but no, I just have one set-up -- 20" iMac 2.16, 3 gig RAM. The only significant addition I would be looking at would be with the addition of Logic 8 Studio at the first of the year. I've often toyed with the thought of getting my Mac mini an MBox companion, but just can't justify two workstation DAWs.

I'd say at this point there's just not enough to get me to take the leap given my current level of satisfaction and stability with 7.1. Thanks again for your advice and input.
