Default Windows doesn't recognize Mbox?

So just recently (the last few days) my mbox hasn't been recording any sound at all, I tried using a different cable, a different mic, different channels, nothing worked. Then I looked in control panel and saw that it wasn't listed in the devices under recording or playback. However, Pro Tools (LE) still recognizes that it's there and opens, just when I try to record something no sound comes out. Also, the little chime when you plug in a usb device still sounds on my computer when I plug it in.

Has the Mbox been working properly on this computer to date?

Win7 needs PT v8.04 or higher to run but Original Mbox is not supported with 8.0.3 and higher

Yeah its been working great, no problems at all until now. Maybe I'm getting the models mixed up, I think its the original because it doesn't have anything that says "mini" or "2" on it

I've read on a bunch of different places that it doesn't work on Windows 7, which is really weird, because its been working perfectly fine. Up until now the computer has recognized it and it's been showing in the device manager. I'm not sure what happened, I didn't change any of the settings or anything. Plus the fact that Pro Tools still realizes its there makes me think its not the interface or the usb/cable.

Maybe a win update happened ?? Or some other software in the background ??

I personally abhor Microsoft's auto update feature

Total luck aside(albeit temporary) Windows 7 requires 8.0.4 or later and the old Mbox(gen 1) won't work past 8.0.1 so I would recommend either getting a newer interface(Mbox 2 or 3, used 002 or 003) and the 8.0.5 update. The other option is to dump Windows 7 and install XP(or setup a dual boot, or swap the Win7 system drive with another drive and load XP on that).
