Default Smack! causing HORRIBLE distortion crackling problems

I'm running PT 7.3.1cs2 on my Mac Pro using a 192 i/o at 48kHz and 24bit. I'm running plugs on my kick drum submix, including Dad tape, and Waves C1 gate, which are before the smack plug and are NOT clipping, with at least 1-1.5 dB of headroom still to "give"; however, if I put in "Smack" (and I have downloaded the latest version, btw), I immediately get internal clipping of Smack with the most horrific racket and crackling/popping that sounds very loud, and the controls on the plugin do not act correctly. I can put in any other similar compressor plugin in the same place and it works fine...

I have searched through DUC, but found nothing on this. Am I perhaps missing something here?

well, I don't know why PT keeps having so many prefs related issues, but that did eventually do the trick, although I had to do it about three times. Not sure why, as I clearly emptied the trash and restarted after each, but I had almost given up before trying again a third time, where it actually fixed the problem!

So, Holden, thanks so much for posting. I don't know what's wrong with the search function here, but it seems to not be very good. It's one of the poorest search systems I've seen on any forum, frequently missing clear and near matches, causing folks like me to ask dumb questions that I would normally find on my own!
