Default Re: The newest 6th generation Intel processors

I run my spare Pro Tools remarkably well (audio wise, not picture unfortunately) on my Dell e6430 laptop and that has a 3rd generation i5 which is not going to be much more powerful than your cpu. I'm wondering whether it's a chipset driver issue, though Gigabyte are usually the gold standard for PC Pro Tools - or at least they used to be.

Default Are you using a 6th generation Intel processor?

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I still need to get feedback from anyone who might be using the 6th generation processors. If you don't experience problems with Interrupt To Process latency, I'll go out and buy one. I have to make sure first! It's a lot of money.

The LatencyMon utility, and all the forums, tell me to disable or update any drivers with an execution time over 1ms. I don't have any drivers or processes over 0.1ms, but my DPC latency is still through the roof. What can I do?

It's a brand new installation of Win 7 x64, ProTools 12.4, all the usual PC Optimizations, 8GB RAM, and two SSD's.
I honestly don't know much about troubleshooting DPC latency. I have my computer overclocked using this guide:
3 Step Guide To Overclock Your Core i3, i5, or i7 - Updated!

and I've done all the Windows 7 Optimizations. I use a SIIG firewire card for my interfaces and have the minimal amount of background programs and services running. I've had ASIO errors in Pro Tools until I set the clocking between the interfaces using Wordclock. I think the key for me is in keeping the computer well ventilated so that the processor can run overclocked without getting too hot. The times that I've had to raise the audio buffer, besides mixing large sessions with lots of plugins, have been when the processor gets too hot due to a cooling fan dying or not running to full capacity.

I ran LatencyMon and attached a couple of screenshots FWIW.

The only problem is that ProToolsHD12.3.1 does not have 32 buffer size... In Windows with ASIO drivers.
64 minimum, 2048 max.

Confirmed by Avid customer support, Lynxstudio and RME.

If you installed everything right, something is damaged.

Try testing memory first... Download & burn Memtest+
http://www.memtest.org/

Windows Memory Diagnostic is not intensive enough to find hidden errors in standard mode.

Etc...

That's the HD Native 9 User Guide and I'm guessing those interfaces were limited to a 64 buffer, but there are interfaces that allow for a 32 buffer with Pro Tools 12 - both of mine will do it in Windows and on a Mac. I'm actually on 12.4 (just hadn't updated my sig), but I'm also able to use it in PT10.

Default Re: Are you using a 6th generation Intel processor?

Chris,

Thanks for the screenshots.

I fixed it! I reinstalled EVERYTHING, including the newest drivers for every mobo component and graphics card etc. At this point I still had high latency and audio dropouts in PT. Then:

I disabled my wifi adapter, and
Made sure my Digi 003 was NOT the default audio device for Windows

and now I think everything works. I actually have lower latency reports than you do.

Thanks for your encouragement.

That's not fair!

Glad you got it working - yeah Wi-Fi adapters have been known to cause issues with Pro Tools.

Been reading through this thread and I see JuanPC is at it again with his false info. I totally debunked his assertions in the thread about ac versus dc power adapters and now he's at it again? Not only in this thread but in others.

Who he reminds me of is our old 'friend' amack with his mistaken info and assertions. Different people but still there's a resemblance one can't deny
