Creating stronger Impulse Responses
Hey,
So i'm making some impulse responses from my Space Echo. Comparing it to the Altiverb preset Space Echo IR's. Mine come off sounding quiet, does anyone have any tips for creating a stronger, cleaner IR? Any advice would be appreciated

Re: Creating stronger Impulse Responses
Never tried this here, but my instinct tells me that this might be a good use for the Audiosuite Normalize plugin

Re: Creating stronger Impulse Responses
Cheers for the tip.
I should have clarified my processes. Tracking through: DI - Fethead Phantom - SQN4S Mk4 - R26 Recorder. Into Pro Tools: Edit - Denoise - Phase Rotate - Normalize -1db - Output. So the clips are hot, and clean. But once I import it into Altiverb then process it it comes back as quiet and kind of dull.

Is there any audible difference between Normalizing/boosting with Slate’s “Trim”/or boosting with Clip Gain? Do all end up with the same noise level? Thanks!

Re: Creating stronger Impulse Responses
I think it might have to do with the system the OP is using to create the IRs. Make sure you aren't missing any step. Also, since this is a process that works in reverse (as a matter of speaking) perhaps instead of normalizing, what you have to do is the opposite...
This is just me thinking out loud, I've never tried making my own IRs although I might try real soon.

Re: Creating stronger Impulse Responses
What are you using as your impulse?
That can effect the response you get. McDSP's Revolver comes with tools to create your own responses - although I think it may depend on which version of the plug-in you have (if I remember correctly, either version 4, or maybe 5, didn't include that function in AAX - you had to use RTAS, and possibly it only worked on Mac - it was a AAX + Windows transition issue). Re: Creating stronger Impulse Responses
I've made impulses from a PCM 80, reverbs and delays etc and got very good results using the 'pop' they provide.
I thought the sweeps were more for room acoustics played back through a speaker?

Re: Creating stronger Impulse Responses
The pop is for digital processing units, for an analog process you need a sine sweep (according to https://www.audioease.com/altiverb/sampling.php)
