Default Avid Free discontinued from Sept 1st

Soz for the double posting, but I thought this might be of interest to folks outside of the post forum.

Just thought I'd post a heads-up for anyone who might use this from time to time, or for those who don't want to miss out before it goes.

Last chance to get it here.

Yes ... go get it now!!! Mac/PC. They also have some pretty good tutorial videos for new Avid users.

I'm not super hip on Avid products, but I'm just wondering why they don't support Tiger for Avid DV Free... Was 10.3.x the last version that they will ever support? So basically are you guys using PC's with this version of Avid?

So strange that Digi is all about Mac's primarily and Avid is all about PC's.

Maybe someday they can coincide with each other and actual make a united product.

I just always looked at it as analogous to PT Free. Time and OS's march on, so why bother to support it when there is money to be made with very cheep entry level options nowadays?

Since all three of my Macs are basically dinosaurs these days, I just keep the program hanging around on my PC laptop.

Mac support is getting there, I think it's only the Nitris systems that are exclusively PC at the moment.

This, together with Apples move towards intel may be what sparked those daft rumors a while back that PT was going to drop Mac support, who knows?

Guess we'll have to wait and see what effect Final Cut Studio has and whether that influences Avid to roll the two into one, though that could have all sorts of negative side effects for the industry.

That said, I think it would be nice if the two systems felt like they were part of the same production line (perhaps assimilating / modifying the GUI might cause outrage), as OMF / AAF still feel to some extent like workarounds.

Being able to open projects / sessions in either application without any intermediate translation would be awesome!
