How many visible tracks in LE

Trying to get a concrete answer here.

How many tracks can be viewable in LE v8?
With or without toolkit options?

I'm not interested in playable (voiced) tracks, as that's either 64 or 48 depending on v7 or v8, I'm trying to find out how many tracks in PT8 can actually be visible, though inactive.

Any help out there?

Well, unless I'm misinterpreting the question, the answer seems simple: You can view whatever the maximum number of tracks your particular flavor of PT allows you have.

But of course it really depends on your screen resolution, how you've sized your mix and/or edit windows, and what track size you have set. I mean, you can have 16 tracks set to the "extreme" track size which would (depending on the window size) push some of them off screen. Then you'd have to scroll the window to see them.

128 tracks visible. It won't let you create any more than that.

Guys, the OP is talking about how many tracks can be in the session, though some may be inactive. From the Ref Guide:

Complete Production Toolkit enables the following
features in Pro Tools LE:
• Session and track features:
• Up to 128 mono or 64 stereo audio tracks of
simultaneous playback or recording
• Ability to use QuickPunch on up to 64
tracks
• Up to 64 Instrument tracks
• 128 internal busses
• Display of up to 256 tracks

w/ CPTK, 256 is the answer.

Thanks on that last post, that was exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't find the number anywhere... Reichman, in that doc, is there a number for LE without the CPTK. I'm trying to lock down the difference because a client is having issue's viewing existing tracks... we'd like to know what the LE standard is and if it increases with either DV or MPTK.. he's not in the market for the CPTK but still wants to see the tracks.

Page 34 of the PT8 ref guide suggests that the vanilla version of LE can push around 128 tracks on the screen, even though you will only have 48 available to hear. (I have a faint memory of older versions of PTLE disallowing even viewing of tracks above a certain limit, use PT8 for your project)

I'm a little frustrated by Avid's decisions here. PTHD and CPTK deal with voices, while PTLE often deals with tracks (48 stereo tracks=96 voices).

First, thanks so much for the answer Reichman, and yes you can outwardly say RTFM, and I'll gladly take it. I just spent an exhausting time looking through documentation and couldn't decipher the difference in tracks/voices and how that applied to limits in sessions. I'm aware of the voice allocation and playable track counts but couldn't figure on the other.

Blame it on Digi fatigue.

Grouping and editing with inactive tracks is an under-utilized function of PTLE. I edited an orchestral session in PTLE, because I didn't need to hear all 50+ tracks while doing the music edit. We then mixed on a more powerful system, of course.
