PT12 with MacBook Pro Late 2011 (upgraded)

I have been running Pro Tools 9 for as long as I feel possible. The time has come to do the upgrade to PT12.
I have done/am planning on upgrading my MacBook Pro (Late 2011) to a configuration that looks like: 2.5 GHz, Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 525GB SSD. And also update OS 10.9.2 to OS 10.12.
On Avids System Requirements/Compatibility Table, the earliest Mac Models are 2012, so I am wondering if anyone has experience with running a newer OS and PT12 on a MacBook Pro 2011 (upgraded)?
Does anyone know if this is possible or will I run into trouble if I try this?

As mentioned by Chris already this should be definitely no problem as long it´s
an i7 Quad Core processor, you got 16GB Ram and even a SSD for the internal drive.

Just make sure to use a second, separate, fast-enough drive for your Pro Tools sessions+audio files. With a 2011 MBP you have two options.
1) go external...use an external drive via Firewire or Thunderbolt (no USB because those MBPs only got USB2) and only use 7200rpm HDDs or SATA SSDs.
2) go internal...replace your optical drive with a second, internal, fast-enough drive for your PT audio.

You again may use a 7200rpm HDD or a SSD (for your MBP model OWC SSDs may be a reliable choice).

If you use VIs with large sample libraries you even may use another, third drive for these samples only. Again, the same specs needed for this drive like for
the PT audio drive.

Finally don´t forget to set up the Pro Tools optimizations for the dedicated version of macOS and you should be good to go.

One word of warning - if using the internal option then be aware that some SSDs don't work in the optical drive slot. I have a Crucial M500 1TB SSD and a Samsung EVO 850 1TB SSD and the Crucial drive doesn't work in the optical drive bay. I've updated my firmware to allow the 6Gb/s transfer too. If I put the Samsung in the optical bay and the Crucial in the main SATA bay then all works fine.
The Samsung has much netter transfer rates too and I now wouldn't touch anything else...

I have a 2012 and 2011, MacBook pros most of what I do is on the 2012 15"
I7 2.7 I've been running 12.8 and Mac OS 10.12.5, with a 960 gig SSD internal and ran the same mixes and bounced to the internal SSD, a firewire, a USB3 and the SD card all with great results. If I used the SD card as the boot drive it didn't seem to work as well.(that was on 46 tracks at (96k)
You may want to look at the 2012 MacBook pros as they have USB 3 ports.
