Just my 2 cents; you're doing it the hard way instead of the easy way(drop the cursor and hit B is about the easiest edit done in PT)

You could try right-clicking and then "separate".

Make sure you have activated and know how to use the smart selection tool.

If I could do that then I wouldn't have to post this

when cursor is on the cut
I right click
separate is grayed out
and the whole clips gets selected
I don't get a chance to use separate in the pull down
I'm missing something to uncheck in the prefs or the tools

Do you have the track selected (the name is highlighted)?

What instrument are you holding? There are times when I track guitar (I'm also playing) and when I stop I need to make edits. This is where having a strap on the guitar (and using it) is a necessity. I can let go of the guitar and do what I need to do in PT even using both hands if necessary. Only downside is banging the headstock into the desk every once in a while

If you're playing a sax get a neck strap. Now if you're trying to do an Ian Anderson thing you have to put the flute down.

Could you clarify : do you then click at this position or are you going right away for a right-click ?
If you go on the position and click and then right-click, it should work.
If you go on the position and click , but move the cursor away from the vicinity of the position and then right-click, it cannot work.
