FXs on vocals
When I mix vocals I usually use an EQ, one compressor, a second compressor, and a Deesser, plus some compression and eq in the vocals channel. But I’ve seen people put a thousand plugins in vocals, which makes me think, am I doing something wrong??

Re: FXs on vocals
I've seen people mix and in doing so press every damn button and twist every damn knob there is. And I've also seen people mix, and use the volume fader and some panning only.
I've also used both of these approaches myself at one time or another. It really depends on the source material you are starting with, and how it is interacting with the other elements in your mix. If it sounds good... it is good. |

Re: FXs on vocals
Just do what you have to do to make it sound good. There is no right or wrong way for a sound to sound

Re: FXs on vocals
Yep, if it sounds good, it IS good My chain is (usually) first insert is empty(in case I need Melodyne)>EQ III>BF76>Smack!>Puigtech EQ1A. Sometimes I add a de-esser, but mostly I do that manually on the track(with Clip Gain or an Audiosuite EQ). Sometimes I will add Waves Vocal Rider at the top(once Melodyne is done and committed). Some of this will change now that I added softube's Console 1, and the first EQ gets swapped for Slate VMR when I use the Slate mic on vocals(usually track with Miktek CV4, or C7)

Oh man, I love the BF76! It's great to hear others are using it as well

Re: FXs on vocals
Its just doing 2-3db of reduction. Actually, this thread is not really named correctly as we are all talking about "processing" and not FX, which usually refers to reverb/delay and such Sometimes I will drop in the Waves JJP vocal plugin and delete everything else
