Why so many clips?
I noticed that I have an awful lot of clips containing the same track. I may have done some editing with elastic audio. Is that why? Can all but one of them be safely deleted? How do I find out which one it is that's actually in use for the track?

Re: Why so many clips?
I'm not the expert on clips/regions but it seems ProTools keeps an original of the actual audio track and then every modification you do creates another version of the audio track Or another clip

Re: Why so many clips?
But once I consolidate the clips in the track, shouldn't I be able to get rid of all but one of the clips in the clip window? I want to keep my session file size as small as posible.

I will usually just export all of my consolidated files into a new session and save the old with all of the clips in case I need to go back. If you choose to delete the 'mini'-clips.. they will be gone. Make sure your consolidated files is what you want.

Re: Why so many clips?
Only those clips in the darker / bold lettering are actual audio files. The clips with the lighter shaded lettering are merely 'segments' made from the parent audio file. They don't take-up additional space on your HD as they are effectively just a representation of a sub-division of the parent file.
If you just want to make the Clip Bin a little more concise and less cluttered, simply select 'unused audio except whole files' and then clear / remove. (NOT DELETE) |

OP said they were trying to keep session file as small as possible. It's long been my desire that PT would move to clip folders so that things could be tucked away neatly.. I haven't heard it mentioned for PT11 but it would be a welcomed surprise.
