Default Recording takes 5 seconds to start !

Hi,

We have Pro Tool 7.4 HD , when clicking on the recording button from the keyboard, it takes 5 seconds to start the recording, whereas previously it was instantly .

Is there a setting for this ? what should we check ?

Just go to the preferences and in " handy features" untick the " take 5 seconds to record " button, or, check the drive isn't fragmented and that maximum record time allocation is set at a sensible amount

and regarding the "maximum record time allocation is set at a sensible amount" where is this option ? under which tab ?

In the transport window, check to see if pre roll or countoff is enabled. If you're having problems finding where this is at, check out the Pro Tools manual, specifically page 376 on setting pre roll. You could also try changing your record allocation to 15 minutes to see if that helps.

It's called "Open Ended Record Allocation" and set it to 10 minutes unless you need to record longer.

If the Open Ended Allocation doesn't help then your DAE buffer setting is too high - set it to the default of 2
