Angry xp32 bit 1394 Light Blinks goes away freeze at DAE

important note: when i use my old mac (the one im replacing with this new pc build) pro-tools opens fine, so this is no problem with the DIGI 002 rack, not a power harness issue.

PROBLEM: Open Pro-Tools, gets to "Creating DAE Objects" Freezes, mouse does not move, nothing responds, ctrl alt delete no response, have to force reset computer
Ive reinstalled OS 8 times , always uninstalled IE 8
Tried running pro-tools first, then installing quicktime, i heard on forums it might help, did not work
attempted with just 2 gig of ram in, no effect

everytime i run pro-tools it gets to creating DAE objects the light stays on for 1 second on 1394 on digi002 then goes blank, then freeze computer have to force reset. bought approved firewire card from their website of approved cards, same problem.

im desperate to figure this out ive tried everything i can think of. spent 2 weeks at work trying different things, nothing works.

NOTE: In device manager i can clearly see the digidesign digi 002rack listed, under IEEE 1394 i can see the TEXAS instrumentals OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Controller

when i turn off rack it goes away when i turn it back on it reappears in device manager so it can see it....

i have pro-tools 8.0 installed on xp 32 bit. ive tried the beta drivers on windows 7 under 8.03 to 8.04 same problem happens there as well freeze at DAE objects light stays lit on 1394 for 1 sec then goes blank

tried disconnecting printer and internet / network.. also no effect

Sam Adams,

Have you tried turning off your 002 when PT errors? Turning it off should throw PT to an error to close gracefully. Sometimes my PT doesn't load and a power cycle of the 002 will get it going. I call it Digi voodoo (?).

When you power cycle the hardware (002), always wait about 30 secs between turning off and turning on. Chips need time to 'power down'.

And when restarting software (PT) same thing. Let the PC memory get freed before you restart your software (PT). Resource Monitor is good here if you interested (get the four counters to 0% and youre gold).

Seems your network might be running, dunno about Macs but PT on PC's does not like network services running.

Mike.
P.S. jameelb there's a NEW THREAD button at the top of the forum screen where you can see the threads listed.

Try pulling 4 GB of memory out. Deleting your Prefs and rebooting.

That was with Win7 and the 8.0.4b driver. I'm back on my Core 2 quad untill I can get the release version of Win7 installed.

Kinda my bad...PT would hang on a 64bit system with 4 GB and a FW interface.

I don't see the SIIG card listed in your Sandra report - is there a reason for that?

I'm thinking that this may be a FireWire driver issue. I would try reinstalling the drivers for your FireWire devices in the Device Manager.

You may also want to try disabling DEP, as that could cause an issue like this.

How to disable DEP
