Default Clip Solo!

I've been using Pro Tools since its inception. Unless I'm mistaken, one feature that existed in some of the earliest version, Clip Solo, has been missing for a long long time. In this mode, you highlight any clip and it's in solo – No hunting for a solo button. Being able to bounce around the timeline soloing any clip was a tremendous timesaver, especially getting to know a new session.

So, this is a feature request... please bring it back!

Never heard of this but very interesting. What was the last version of PT you recall having this feature? You can always select a clip after the edit cursor with Control Tab or Control Command " and then Shift S. Should be pretty fast but not quite the same.

Interesting idea A possible work around: call up the AudioSuite 1 band EQ. Highlight a clip and hit the preview button on the plugin(any AS plugin will work, but something small and defaulting to no effect seems best).

select clip
Ctrl+ (numpad) 5

(that's the mac shortcut)
It's always solo-in-place (AFL/PFL doesn't matter to it). The track does NOT solo (it is just clip/selection that plays). If the clip is on an audio track routed to an aux that is not solo defeated, it won't matter -- it'll still be heard (because it is not a track solo the aux is still open). If the clip is on an audio track routed to another audio track that is not input enabled, it won't be heard (for the obvious reason.)
And... you can select across multiple tracks to just hear the selected clips/selection together.

(I started in Pro Tools TDM 6 but I've even checked the Pro Tools 5 manual -- there's never been a clip solo "mode" as far as I can find; Can't find manuals earlier than v5 but I think we have the hard copies still at the studio in a storage locker )

I thought Control (numeric keypad) 5 was “real-time shuttle lock” according to the current shortcut manual? Maybe the function was combined/renamed at some point with the rest of the Control numeric keypad shuttle lock speeds?

It is real-time shuttle. A by-product of that is this function (solo selection without actually soloing tracks.) It's actually pretty great if you want to solo something (or somethings) but don't want to check your path to output is solo-safe-ed. Like AFL/PFL but still being SIP. (And the bonus of multitracks if the cilps are on multiple tracks)

You can audition a clip in the clip list on the right by alt+clicking on the clip.

This solo's the clip direct to the monitor rather than via the mixer. Maybe this was the feature?

Clip-solo? I started on PT4 but I have no memory of this ever existing. You can simply hit shift-S (solo selected track). No hunting for buttons necessary.
That said, I'd love to have an auto-solo track mode which auto-solos what ever track your cursor is currently on. Would be awesome for cutting Foley or dialogue. Requested it multiple times here and on ideascale probably 10 years ago.

Caveat : you have to have "Link Track and Edit Selection" enabled (I think - I never *not* use it but I guess there might be people out there who don't)

I don’t recall that feature either.

Fairlight had a Solo Follow mode which was an X-OR solo for whatever track was selected. I remember that on Ideascale for PT.
