Default Calculating Waveform Overviews?

I'm currently working with a very large super-session and when I import new media PT doesn't show any waveform in the clips. If I go to the task manager window I can see calculating waveform overview is spinning and apparently stuck.
If I pause the process all is fine and I can keep working and when I re-open the session all the waveforms are there.
If I don't pause it and leave it spinning PT will sometimes do a hard crash and bomb out completely.
I've read the other threads on this, but there was no conclusive solution and wondered if anyone else had found what the issue is?
Thanks

Delete the wavecache file and see if that clears up the jam.

No network, it's an NVme SSD inside the mac pro.
I'll try deleting the cache, but it worries me it will just crash it?

Shouldn't crash it, just force PT to recalculate. From an SSD it usually flies.

You can always just stash it on the desktop if you don't want to delete.

I deleted the cache and it seemed to improve for a while, but now it's back to getting stuck again.
The only ways I've found to unfreeze it are re booting PT and sometimes if I import a new piece of audio via audio import or through Soundminer it will wake it up.
