According to the spec compare page under Supported Hardware, the 003 family can be used with PT9 HD.

Thanks, Bill, for a nice cup of sarcasm in the morning
But you are missing the point, probably. 003 and 002 (so called "factory") are designed as BOTH Audio/MIDI I/O and Control Surface. This topic is about the latter function, which we hope to have retained when moving from PT LE pre-9 to PT HD 9. I hope you will second the following statement: "A Control Surface is designed to be a Control Surface and might be used as a Control Surface"

Another misinterpretation. In the table linked above, 002 and 003 are listed as compatible in the "Hardware Interface Support" section (which means AUDIO I/O roughly) but NOT in the "Console and Control Surface Support" section and this is what this thread is about.

Do you think Avid would do a firmware upgrade that would allow me to connect my 003 Rack to an HD Core Card?

I know that the 003 Rack is designed for LE, but I really like it, and I want to use it for my HD 7 rig.

I could get the new I/O, but the color of the units would really clash with the colors in my studio.

So Avid, would you please come up with a firmware upgrade so I can use a piece of equipment designed for one thing for something totally different...
You are really clueless as to what is being discussed here.

So what you are saying is that you can hook up a 003 factory via firewire and it will function as an I/O with PT9 HD software but it will not control any of the faders and other functions?
This seems a bit strange considering that when PT 9 HD software is used without HD hardware it is essentially the same as PT9 with CPTK2, in which case the 003 factory functions fully as an I/O and control surface with PT 9 and CPTK2.
If anyone in the LA area with a PT9 HD ilok authorization would like to test this out, you can send me an email via my profile.

I, like many others, was very excited when ProTools 9 touted the ability to use multple interfaces. I was excited at the possibilty of using my familiar 002 control surface with a higher quality Apogee Interface and quickly shelled out my $250.

The fact that Avid's own product line cannot use this feature is disappointing. Avid, please let us know if a firmware update is possible and planned.

Bump.
Avid, any updates on a firmware update that will allow the 002 / 003 to be used in combination with another interface as a control surface only? Feasibility? Probability?
Please....
Thanks

i understand the sentiment here. i was running a 002. when PT9 came out, i switched to an MC Mix. while the MC Mix certainly looks cool and stylish, i miss the quality faders on my 002 greatly. I would love to be able to use it as a control surface only.

the MC Mix is not worth $1400 imo. it should be more like $700.
