Default Please Avid Give us 003 as Controller Only
I love the Controller part of my 003, but want to not use the I/O and connect any I/O I want independent of the 003. Let us use it just as we would a Command 8!!!!!

So, it sounds like what we really need is a new version of the Command 8, which would be nice, since it's like 7 years old or something.

I want to use what Ive got. The new Command 8 is the Euphonics Artist Series.

I'm using my 003 with a Rosetta 800 and that makes the 003 pretty much a controller. The only thing that is hooked up to it is the adat cables.

I would like to see a MIDI profile or firmware update that would let the 003 work as a control surface and monitor controller. No real reason this can't be done that I'm aware of.

Yes, I think a firmware upgrade could make this happen(maybe even thru the firewire connection. I have my eye on the Saffire56, but I'm not ready to give up the 003 surface, which I like(although I could sell it and buy a used Command8 and have some cash left over.....)

I am also looking at the Saffire 56 but would also like to keep the 003 control surface. One option is to use the saffire 56 and connect the lightpipe adat cable from that to the 003 and at least that will bypass the A/D converters on the 003. You will just need to set up an new I/O map and set track inputs accordingly. Go over to the Protools request forum and search "aggregate" and agree with the requests for adding this feature to the 003.

You can solve it by allowing the 002/003 to be used as aggregate devices as well.
