As a longtime Software Engineer, I have to clarify that comment. A plugin is a library, not a program. And it is specifically designed and written to work in the environment in which it's being used. That is way different than using two different applications in tandem.

I've been using Studio One for about a year now. Amazing how it takes control of VI's!! Keep adding tracks, and always just works. I tried PT's again for some audio I needed to record,,,, 12.5 then 12.7. And was reminded of the beauty of editing in PT's,, and I sorta missed it. So,,,, started a new project in PT's with midi, and was immediately reminded as to why I tried S1 to begin with. Now, with the new FaderPort 8,,,, its crazy fast, (after 3 days of getting use to not using the mouse much), and with Presonus constant updates/upgrades, its just going to keep getting better!! Still will use PT's for audio, but for a large amount of VI's,, S1 is the way to go! Its good reading you guys again,, I'll be back next PT's upgrade again!!! Mike

I have been a Stenbierg user of both Cubase and Nuendo since 2008. As I attempt to learn Pro Tools I'm just like "wtf....why don't they make this more simple"....Is it just the learning curve, or is pro tools just not making things as simple....ie...in Cubase I can hit one button and my mixer comes up. While I'm running it off two monitors, I can drag my mixer to my second monitor why my editor window show in the other monitor. In pro tools you have to drag the whole session across both screens, then hit alt+= (yes I'm using windows) to get the mix window to come up.....that's just one instance...in Cubase if I want to enlarge or minimize a wave all I have to do is click and drag....Heck I've been trying to figure out how to do this in Pro Tools for the last few hours

I guess it's a Windows thing then where Pro Tools must be using a single window... On mac it's just as easy as you do in Cubase, cmd(alt)+= and your mixer pops up, you drag it wherever you want, on whatever monitor you want.

One of PT's "strengths" is it's complete stubbornness to accept change... in order to appease it's existing user base. People get used to workflows, (however archaic they may seem to users of other DAW's).

As a long-time Logic user, (& just about every other DAW), I completely sympathise - some of PT's key commands are cryptic beyond belief, (& rarely customisable).

Despite this, perseverance does reap dividends - PT definitely has it's strengths... editing, arranging & mixing.

Composition, midi & VI's however are (currently) best left to the competition.

One of my favorite mantras is: Anybody who claims to "know" Pro Tools doesn't!

I've been using it since 1.0 yet I learn something new almost every time I watch somebody else work. You have to think of it as an audio erector set. It lets you build exactly the right tool for the job but you need to know what to build. Most of us learned that as assistants in analog studios.

Well said Bob - old habits die hard, (& we’re all guilty to some degree)!

A fresh perspective is always healthy - even if that methodolgy comes from another DAW...

As you say, know what you're aiming for, & be thankful for the "Tools" at your disposal

Would never hurt to haver some improvements but I work fastest in PT. Logic X and Studio One 3 just sit there on my dock. Maybe I'll check out reaper one day.
