Default WUP Waves Update Plan! Best Option? Please Advise.

Hi all,
I got a message today to say I needed to renew my WUP.

Please see the attached screen shot with my current situation.

So what to do? I remember it is possible to get WUP if I buy a new product? Is that correct? If so, I might be best to wait for the latest Abbey Road product and get that.

Otherwise, what's the best way forward? I need Mercury, SSL and the Abbey Road Collection and that's it. Some are still current and others lapsed. What's thew most cost effective way forward?

Many thanks in advance!

All the best,
Stephen

WUP is just an update subscription for each plugin.

But, in the 3 years i've had Waves plugins. They've only been updated once.

You can renew here, by following the link.

http://www.waves.com/support/waves-update-plan

The cost will vary depending on what plugins you want to renew.

I personally don't renew my WUP unless there is an update.

Looking at your products, I agree that your main concern would be Mercury, SSL, and the Abbey Road stuff.

Some of your stuff is redundant like the One Knobs, Maserati and Renan max, etc.

As mentioned, there's no compelling reason to update, unless some major change comes about, or they add a cool new plugin to Mercury.

But if you're going to update, you might as well include everything, since it's capped out at a certain amount, and Mercury alone will already bring you to the max.

By updating the redundant extra stuff, you will be current with it which will be needed if you decide to sell those.

And by including the Abbey Road stuff, even though it doesn't expire for a while, you will extend the entire list out to February of 2018, because it extends everything out to a year past the latest expiring plugin.

Tip: buy whatever cheapo plug-in is on sale for $29. Then update WUP on your entire account.

The WUP extends to one year past your latest expiration, which is the new plug expiring one year from now. You essentially get 2 years of WUP on everything for $329.

The importance depends a lot on if you are upgrading your OS and DAW all the time. An OS upgrade can create DAW as well as plug-in incompatibilities.

And don't forget to check the box that asks if you use the plugins on just one computer. Makes a difference.

Understood! Cheers MM

Regarding selling the stuff I no longer need like the Gold Bundle I think the cost of transfer of ownership makes it prohibitive? See here

http://www.waves.com/support/transfer-of-ownership

"4. There is a $150 transfer fee for products with a list price of $700 or higher. This transfer fee will cover as many licenses as you need to transfer at one time."

So the list price for Gold is now $799 which means the $150 transfer fee apples.

However, the bundle is now retailing for £150 ($210 approx.) which leaves little over $50 for the bundle, minus eBay and PayPal fees.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waves-Gold-Boxed

So unless I'm missing something here it doesn't seem worth selling off?

Stephen
