Maximizing stability pt10/11 digi002 macmini mavericks

Please help me maximize daw stability.

Digi 002 (not yet ready to upgrade interface so must make due)
macMini late2012 i7 2.6ghz quadcore 8gb ram 256gb ssd
Mavericks os (would like to stay here or yosemite)
Protools 10/11 (will likely stay here for the next 5-10 years)
Currently using lacie orange rugged 500gb external firewire (about 3 years old) can easily replace if needed
