Default How To Remove/ Reduce Crackling Sound With Xpand2 Guitars

I know some guitars in Xpand2, and other VI's as well, have that distorted sound but if I hold a note for a couple seconds I get that "crackling" type of sound that comes through on my mixes too much. Is there a plugin I should be using so that sound doesn't stand out in my mix as much? An engineer mentioned to play with the EQ but when he got done with it, it lost that "bite" and just didn't stand out as much from the other instruments.
