Default Just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.05 - Help!

My PT8.04 was working just fine until (stop me if you've heard this one), it just stopped working. It just started freezing when looking for the databases upon start-up... so after clearing them and doing all sorts of stuff to no avail, I upgraded to 8.05 and figured this would be better than a re-install.

Now the program does load but...

It takes way too long to start up, it takes a lot of time for sessions to open and it keep stopping me in frozen lag for a good 15 seconds every time I begin any action that touches the HD. Stopping, Starting etc. Clearly the drive and the upgrade aren't getting along. It takes forever just when i want to minimize or maximize the windows.

Also an Mbox Mini Control panel was installed, I have an an Mbox Pro 2 connected via firewire.

The audio drive is fine and new(ish) and I never had an issue before today. I record on G primarily from software on C.

Behold lovely Ms. Sandra Report:

One thing I noticed... in my CP, I have config tools for MboxMini (never owned that) and MBox Pro, BUT it's set up for MBox Pro 3 for some reason. Could it be the installation misread what interface i have?

Tough to say, but I think a re-install is in order here....with a few extra steps, to be safe. #1, I would backup the system drive by imaging or a straight clone. Then, with the Mbox disconnected, run the uninstaller utility on your LE installer disk, or use Windows control panel>Uninstall a program. After a reboot, explore the installer(8 or 8.0.3) and find the Setup.exe and right-click and choose Run as Administrator. When the installer tells you to connect the interface, DON'T. Just click on Okay, let it finish and reboot. Now run the 8.0.5 updater(again with the Run as Admin option). When the updater asks you to connect, plug the Mbox in, wait about 8 seconds, then click on Okay, let it finish and reboot. Next, right-click on the PT icon and select Properties>find the tab with these 2 items, and check both:
Always Run as Admin, Disable Desktop Composition.
Now open PT and put in your authorization code(the one that reads "DIFI08.....)

***IMPORTANT*** remember to IGNORE any popups that say "New Hardware Found". Don't click on them at all(they will go away on their own). Fingers crossed

Avid is killing me softly haha. I hate when you're really busy and find that little beautiful window to work on music, only to find the software betraying your art.

I was hoping for a quick solution instead of having to white wash the whole thing and the reinstall all my plugins, but truthfully your solution is the logical step. Thanks for taking the time to suggest it.

I'm going to have to do it... ug.

Ok, nothing is working guys; it's pure torture. I totally reinstalled everything from first to last step (all in admin) and if anything, it's worse. The recording and software drive are both fine and fast, no other programs are causing me any problems and I can't figure this out for the life of me.

I can't even force quit the program fast.. I forced quit four minutes ago and I'm still looking at the icon.

if I'm using the software in a continuous flow, it will keep working. Any stop and I'm doomed.

The only thing I can think of is to go get new firwewire ports and figure maybe it's that?

Any other ideas?

You know, VIA firewire is sometimes a show-stopper for audio And speaking of FW, its worth trying the different drivers. Avid recommends the Legacy driver, but it has never worked for me on 3 computers. The T.I.Compliant driver is what works for me(with 003 on FW).

I don't think it's the firewire driver... I think it's a forced windows security update (I always have it turned off) that happened due to the turn off being lifted by my virus software. I feel digitally assaulted to be honest.

Also, with win7 enterprise, hidden PT files are everywhere so you need 25 minutes after an uninstall to find them all. Still, every time I re-install, somehow the recent files are still there.

Color me sick.

Right now I'm going the other direction and installing all windows updates, reloading the software and taking my chances, My next move is trying a restore point and then to destroy a perfectly good OS just for this one ****** program and reload it.
