Default Protools 11 Midi Sustain Issue

Since installing ProTools 11 on our new studio computer we've had issues with Midi when it comes to sustain. When playing any sort of piano, pad, or organ, the note is cut off when the sustain pedal is lifted, even when the keys are still being held down.

So you can hold down the note on the keyboard, press the sustain pedal, but as soon as you lift up the sustain pedal the note is harshly cut off even though the keyboard key is still pressed. The sustain pedal works otherwise. It will sustain the note correctly as long as you don't let the pedal up while any keys are being pressed.

We've tried with multiple keyboards, multiple sustain pedals, multiple virtual instruments, and used both a midi interface and a straight USB connection to the computer.

Anybody had the issue?

Thanks!

Josh

Yes. Thats and old bug in ProTools. I think it's related if MidiMerge is on or off.
It "should" work better if it's disabled.

Hello, I am using protools 10.3.10, suddenly the midi session had been doing two very strange things in playback:
1. A looping crackling noise until
2. midi notes get stuck totally - sustaining until I hit stop.

Whenever I had this issue in the past I would restart my computer, it would go away, however it is persisting now, and only with this full midi session , I already tried disabling the midi merge.

I am on Windows 8.1, using Focusrite 2i2, thanks for your help

What specific vi's are you using? Certain ones are known for having this kind of issue with NI's Absynth being one of those. Also if it's only one or two you might want to see if the stuck vi has a 'panic' button to push to kill the notes.

One last thought - are you using a delay plugin? Changing certain parameters on the plugin while playing can cause a sound to stick.
