Default LE 8 Crossgrade To 11

Hey there! first things first. I am a total newbie to pro tools so excuse my lack of knowledge.
I am running a desktop mac OS Mavericks with a digi 002 rack.
Issue: A few years ago I had LE 8 installed on a laptop that was not running pro tools smoothly which caused me to give up on it for a while. Now that i am back an have a machine that will run pro tools more efficiently I was advised to to purchase the LE 8 cross-grade to 11, which i did. Pro tools "quits" before it even has a chance to start when i try to open it. I get no further than that
Question: does pro tools LE 8 needed to be installed on the computer for the cross-grade to 11 work?? Is this my problem? Any input on this is greatly appreciated!

No previous version needs to be installed. If you did install 8, uninstall it.

Also, you need to download and install the latest drivers for the 002. Interface drivers are not automatically installed like they were in 8 and earlier.

Also note that the 002 is not supported in PT11, though it still may work. If you run into too many problems, you may need to use a different interface.

I don't have all the answers, but you don't need LE8 installed at all(in fact, you would have to remove it first anyway). You need to install 11, but before you do that, you should install the driver for the 002/003 rack. Note that the 002 is not a supported interface, but it SHOULD work with the rack driver for 003. Of course, with PT11, you are free to use almost ANY interface, including the onboard audio connections of the Mac.
