Hey.. looks good. I opted for the ASUS CUSL2 motherboard.. can't really comment on the Abit.

I got the same video card.

I don't know how good Rich os for CD Burners. I went with Plextor after listening to the group.

I believe your RAM should be PC133 (for newer PCs), but I can't say for sure. Has sonething to do with Front Side Bus, I think.

Lastly, why not splurge and get the PIII 1GHz? Most of us would like to have gotten a P4 but realize how long it will be before Digi is ready to test/approve on it. So I maxed what would work in the P3 family.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I would love to have gone for the P3-1GHz, but unfortunately I only have a certain amount of budget to shoot at new computer gear each year. And I wouldn't even have been speccing this one up if one of our existing DAWs hadn't unexpectedly gone belly-up. :-(

On the RAM front: Paul Pavely at Digidesign UK told me that the DIGI001 system would not work with PC133 RAM. Go figure. I would certainly have specced PC133 for not the least of which reason being that it's cheaper! I suppose I could always change that.

Anyway, many thanks. I'm encouraged to know that I'm not making some huge blunder!

Kind regards,

Sandy.

Sandy,

There have been many reports of problems with Highpoint IDE controller/drivers. I believe the Highpoint is used on the BE6-II (I could be wrong).

The work-around is to use the Microsoft IDE controller driver that's on your Win98 CD. Search the subject on the DUC to be sure.

Default Opinions appreciated on new PC spec please.

Hi there.

We're just about to build a new PC to run Pro Tools Digi001. I'd appreciate any advice/opinions on the spec. I'm led to believe it's going to be absolutely fine for Digi001 but I'd appreciate any confirmation that folks may be able offer.

Pentium III 800MHz.
Abit BE6-II mobo.
256Mb PC100 RAM.
2x Seagate Barracuda 30.6Gb 7200RPM UDMA-66.
Ricoh 12-speed CD burner.
Windows 98 Second edition.
Matrox G450 video.

Very grateful for any help.

Kind regards,

Sandy.

Hiya B.Ray, thanks for the advice.

Having now gone off and read a lot of the DUC postings regarding the Highpoint ATA-66 controller, I'm bothered!

Might anyone be able to suggest an alternative mobo that will work fine in ATA-66 mode? The only consideration is that it must have one ISA slot for a Zefiro Acoustics I/O card.

I'm very keen to hear anyone's ideas on this - thanks in advance!

Sandy.

Hiya.

After some thought and not a short time spent trawling the DUCs, I have given my supplier the option of finding either the Gigabyte GA-BX2000+ or the Asus CUBX-E. I reckon either of these boards would be fine judging on what I've read.

But...

I'd still appreciate anyone's opinion!

Many thanks,

Sandy.

For what it's worth, if I go for a BX card, it would be the Asus CUBX-E.

Heard lots of good things about it and nothing bad.

Hi Xman & macphgw.

Xman, many thanks for your suggestion, but unfortunately the CUSL2 is inappropriate due to its complete lack of ISA slots and I need just one for another I/F card.

Macphgw, thanks for your vote of confidence on the CUBX-E!

Anyone else like to stir their oar?

Sandy.
