Default Re: Freebie - TBProAudio ISOL8

Okay, so when I noticed the gain increase earlier I had dropped ISOL8 on a master out track -where most of my metering and analyser plugins live- in a mix I was working on. I saw a gain increase of about a dB and a half.

I did a little test session just now with just one track with a signal generator and a master track with ISOL8 and a VU meter. 24/48, bog standard.

With a 1kHz test tone @ -18dB there was no change when activating ISOL8 or engaging the filters.

With pink noise however the level increase is enormous, averaging out at -10.5, that's a whopping 7.5dB difference. And it's not constant, the levels seem to modulate..? Disengaging the filters with the button within the plugin, or bypassing the plugin altogether brings everything back to normal, expected levels.

I really have no idea what's going on here. I have never seen anything like it with any other plugin I have ever owned.

ISOL8 is cleared for OSX 10.5 and higher so it can't be a 'Yosemite thing' (Damn you Avid!) it's the current v1.0.3 version (I checked) AAX64 and no other variables.

Stumped.

No need to be stumped.. Contact TB.. they ALWAYS respond punctually and are good peeps.

Even if it's for a freebie, let them know. They are polite courteous folks and they WILL fix it.

I've seen their topics at KVR when they had some freebie bugs, and they would even apologise when something was reported.

Believe me just do it. I haven't even downloaded this plugin yet or i'd do it myself for you, but I'm not entirely sure what's going on.. just urging you to contact them.

Okay, that's a good tip. Positive thinking, I like that. Thanks TNM!

When I find a little time there's one more thing I want to try, load the plug-in as a VST or AU in BlueCat and see how that behaves. Then I'll scoot over to KVR and see if there's a thread there.

I'll keep you posted.

I asked about this at the KVR forum. From what answers I got, I gather that seeing some peaks at the cross-over points with this particular filter design is, indeed, 'expected behaviour'.

I still think it's a very useful plugin. It's probably a good idea though to by-pass the filters as a default setting.

Don't you just love it when a developer invests in making a FREE plug-in better and better? What wonderful times we live in...
