Unhappy High Spec PC not coping with simple sessions

Up untill recently I've been running Pro tools of of a laptop and CPU, H/W buffer, and disk speed errors were somthing far too farmilliar.
So I've recently forked out for a new PC that I've put together myself.
It has a phenom II X6 3.3GHz proccesser , 2x4Gb RAM and a 64Gb SSD. and I'm running it on Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

But now after using the system for just a short period of time I'm getting the old familiar error messages again.

I've tried tweaking the H/W buffer, CPU, processor options, only succeeding in triggering one of the alternative error messages.

I'm only running 8.0.5 LE and this system should be able to more than handle it, yet it's profforming the same as my old laptop (if not slightly worse)

If any one has any ideas/ suggestions I'd be very greatfull.

Thanks,
Hedley

Also I'd like to add that every other aspect the PC is working very well. starting up in a couple of seconds, copying files in the blink of an eye etc. as you'd expect from an SSD/ fast processor.

In a similar boat myself, but with a completely different computer. Without a Sandra report, nobody will have much help to offer.

Just noticed a few things you haven't mentioned:
Are you recording to a different drive than your system drive?
If so, is that drive FW? PT doesn't support working with USB drives.
Again, if you are working with a second hd, what is the drive speed? Typical laptop speed drives of 5400 RPM are no good; you need 7200 RPM or better. And no 'green' drives either that allow the drive speed to follow work load or spin down and sleep.
Speaking of sleep - don't allow your computer to sleep.

Actually, not entirely accurate. Windows 7 systems SHOULD use USB2 and should NOT use firewire. +1 for the rest of that post. If its a desktop system, adding an internal drive is cheapest and nets the best performance. Still waiting for the Sandra report.........................

Not to go sideways with this thread but could you explain why Win7 machines should use USB2 instead of FW? Particularly if the machine has FW800 and not FW400. Every other OS (Win or Mac) FW is usually the better choice.

Oops - just saw the compatibility list for Windows and Avid does say to use USB. I still wonder why that is so.

From what I have read, it boils down to the USB2(the 2 being important) and firewire drivers for Windows 7. The USB drivers got better, but the firewire drivers got worse. There has been some confusion regarding firewire interfaces on Win7 as well. Mostly, Avid recommends the Legacy driver, but on my systems(all 3), that driver turns the 003 controller into a goofy looking midi note generator(each button plays a sound on a VI plugin). The only driver that works for me is the TI Compliant driver(for the 003). I record to internal SATA drives almost exclusively, and use my externals(USB and firewire) for backups, transfers and archives only. Internal SATA and eSATA will net the best performance over ANY USB or firewire.

There's part of the problem - you need to get at least one more drive as PT doesn't really support working with just the system c: drive. Partitioning won't help - you need another physical drive.
