Default Fastest Way to Turn Down the Level of all tracks !

What is the fastest way to turn down the level of all the tracks so there is no clipping on the master fader?
NOTE: AFTER THERE IS VOLUME AUTOMATION ON THE TRACKS
Thanks

One way is to select all tracks and group them as one. Don't select the Master Fader. Then show automation in the edit window and when you pull down the automation on one track does them all. Then de-select the group all and you're back in business.

You can bus all your tracks to a stereo AUX track with it's output sent to the master fader.
Then you can lower everything just by lowering the AUX tracks fader without effecting the mix relationships. -OR- you can just put the Trim Plug-In on the master fader and lower that. There are other ways as well...

To keep the Automation.. Put all tracks in Write & Trim Mode.. The faders will turn gold/yellow... Look at the level read out, they will all read 0. Pull down the fader/faders by the amount you want to drop the level by, then using the automation window only select the faders for updating then rewrite the automation using the controls in that window.. all the changes in automation will be saved but reduced by the amount you set the fader/s to.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Absolutely, use the master fader. It's more exact for preseving the balances than pulling all the faders down individually.

I can't tell you how hard it is to clip the master fader. You would have to have something like 64 channels all at full scale simultaneously to clip the master fader. There's a lot more headroom in there than you think.

No, you won't clip prior to the master fader.

" I thought of that, but does it prevent it from clipping before the master fader? "

No, the master fader works in conjunction with the individual faders to create the total 2-mix, and the inserts are post-fader.

* HOWEVER, if you have aux tracks before the fader (used for mastering plugins, for instance) and the input to one of THEM is overloading, lowering the master fader will NOT help !!!!!!!

Since you have to use aux-tracks for your 2-mix inserts (unless you want the sound to change on fade-outs) the "pulling down the master fader" trick is somewhat useless, although I suppose you could create a PRE summing-aux master fader, just for that purpose. Kind of cumbersome, but I guess that would work.

if you record at a reasonable level you won't need to deal with this.
