7db is a lot of gain reduction unless you know for sure that's the sound you want. You can't really undo compression. You don't have to put it through all those things unless there's a reason. Otherwise, it's just another gain stage adding noise and color (that you may not want). I generally go mic, preamp, and then if the singer needs it I may give them a couple db through my audioscape la2a. It's nice and slow and won't get in the way. If they need or want a lot I put a compressor on the insert so they hear it in their head but it doesn't print. Then I have a lot more control during the mix.
