Default 888/24 S/PDIF could not be made active? Help!

Hi guys,

I'm about to start a project transferring tapes from an old Revox A77 reel to reel machine.

So I connected the A77 to my Yamaha digital mixer which has S/PDIF i/o. Out from their to the 888/24 S/PDIF in.

I'm using pro tools 6.4 on a G4 Quicksilver. I create a session with two tracks (L & R) but when try to change the input on the pro tools channel it says:

The input could not be made active because the input path is currently un available.
What does that mean? What shall I do?

Check your I/O setup and make sure you have S/PDIF enabled for the particular input.

Thanks, that seems to have got me sorted, kinda. I have two 888/24's can't get the first one to work with S/PDIF but the 2nd one (slave) is working.

Now, what about word clock? At present I have the two 888/24 set as master and slave. Should I connect the Yamaha mixer as well and what should be master/slave? I've come from LE so word clock is all a bit new to me.

I would try using both the Yamaha as Word Clock master, and slave the 2 888's off of that, as well as having the 888's (1 master, 1 slave) and off to the Yamaha.
Make sure you are syncing to word clock in the Hardware setup, and that everything is set to 44.1 or 48k
