Default Auto Input Monitoring? Punching

Hello all,
I have a few questions regarding auto input monitoring. I am recording vocals for rap music. The guy raps, then gets half way through the verse then messes up. I want to punch him in at the spot where he messed up. I want to have it pre roll for 2 bars. So I select auto input monitoring, make sure the metrenome thing on the transport bar is lit as is the conductor. But when I go to record, it's counts off the 2 bars but it doesn't do any pre roll so the rapper doesn't know where to start? Is this making sense? What do I have off or am I not doing right? I know besides having them get it right in the first place, what can I do?
Thanks
Gritty

Hi GrahamCA,

Make sure that in your transport window that PRE-ROLL is also highlighted and that the desired amount of pre-roll has been entered.

Hope this helps,

MasterJ

Thanks Master J,
So, the pre roll would look like this:

2:00:00 correct?

in the edit window on your main timescale there is also two little 'flags' you can just drag. One is for pre roll, and one is for post roll. If pre/post roll is enabled then the little flags are green, if they are disabled then they are just grey. It's really easy to just drag them to where you want to start your preroll from visibly.

Cool, thanks drummer, never even knew about those little green flags. Thanks for the tip.

Also make sure pre-roll is actually enabled. The hotkey from memory is CTRL+K which is handy when you go for playback and want to toggle pre/post roll on/off.

Cheers,
Marcus
