Default beat detective or identify beat?

I'm fairly new to pro tools and I was wondering when you import an audio track into a session, how can you get PT to figure out the tempo of the imported track? I'm sure it's BT or ID, but not sure which one or how to use properly. Thanks in advance, for any solutions.

Both (either/or).

The "how to" part for Identify Beat is covered starting on page 370 of the Reference Guide (which is also available from the help menu within the program).

There used to be a short video tutorial on Identify Beat, but they are "revamping" that part of the website right now.

Beat Detective can do the same thing, but it has a load of other features and can get quite complex. If you really want to delve into Beat Detective and it's advanced features, I would recommend one of the tutorial videos at www.grooveboxmusic.com as it is definitely more than can be covered in a post on an internet forum.
