Default I think I'm getting off the train

I have been a PT user now since 2001. I'm mainly a songwriter/musician. I have always tried to stay current with PT but the doubling of the cost to stay current is just to much for this retired guy. Love PT and will try and use my legacy system as much as possible but hard to justify the expense to stay current. Own cubase 6 and logic 9 but always preferred PT but the model sucks for me. I doubt I am the only one who feels this way.

You’re not and the dozens of other threads that appear seemingly on a weekly basis will confirm that.

Perhaps the mods can make a sub forum just for complaint threads? =P

BTW - I don’t disagree with you, but I’m not sure constantly starting new threads is the answer.

The more the merrier as far as I am concerned.

Hopefully, Avid will wake up and smell the coffee?

I’ve been learning Reaper the past few months, I find it much more powerful than PT. I won’t go into listing the reasons there isn’t enough space here. It took some head scratching and customizing but it’s worth it. It’s a fantastic DAW for sound design.

One more year for me. Once the new mac pro's are working well with PT (assuming they come out as planned).

Not that it matters to most, but ...

I am also planning on leaving AVID during 20/21. I'm on PT Ultimate.
Costs is too high ... for almost nothing.
AVID's policy is far off compared to most.
I would say there is a lack of decency when it comes to 'money talk' on that part.
Sad

But hey, that's me. Others might have another view.

Been using Pro Tools since v2.
And IMHO, Its the best looking DAW with the best workflow around.
But the costs ...

Also been looking into Reaper lately, and find it very interesting.
Even found a couple of Pro Tools Skins for it. Looking good so far ...

i wonder why Reaper can be a very Small Installer / Program and has lots of features ... and Pro Tools is a very Large Installer / Program ...

i swear a few years back maybe PT9, that we were all told the program was rewritten nearly from Scratch .... to get rid of the Old Code and the Bloat !!! maybe i am crazy !!!

happy with Logic X so far ... and PT is working just fine, stalled where i am and will watch Avid for any significant changes ..

I think if you freeze your OS with your current Pro Tools version you'll be just fine. By the time you need to update, perhaps the prices will have come down. If not, time to look elsewhere. I use Logic X with an Apollo TB3 silver face. It is ok, but Logic and Apollo are no HDX system. I'm staying current for now. I have till April to decide if I should get off the Avid subscription train. I'm on the fence quite frankly. $399 although expensive, is still better than the other options out there. Sad to say. Once HDX is put to pasture, that is a whole other story. I can't see myself upgrading to HDX's replacement unless there is a truly compelling reason to do so. I keep hoping one of the competitors, like Apogee or UA come up with an HDX beater, but so far, no dice. They have a couple of years to come up with something. Hopefully by then, Logic will have a few more updates that gets it closer to Pro Tools when it comes to seamless recording and editing. Some people think Logic X is perfect as is, well maybe not perfect, but close. I disagree. UA Apollo's Console is a deal breaker. I refuse to use it, but I don't track with plugs anyway, so it is not issue. Although the latency is still nowhere near as good as HDX. I'd consider upgrading to an Apollo Apogee, but it is already pushing 5 years old and I imagine a new refresh is no more than a couple of years down the road, just about the time HDX becomes obsolete. Fingers crossed.

Something tells me that Avid must have something big under development, otherwise, they are screwed once HDX is retired. If they go strictly native, than they are no different than all the other native companies. For latency reasons and the new Mac Pro keeping PCIe alive and well, I see Avid releasing an updated replacement for HDX. It better be damn good and the software development needs to keep up with the rest of the industry, which it isn't at the moment.

What’s an ”Apollo Apogee” and whats pushing 5years? We have 4 of the new Apollo X8P series and they just came out! Kills the ”Silver Apollo” you say you have both sound and everything else. We track at 64/32 buffer size which is impossible to hear any latency so compare the HDX and the new X series of Apollo the converters are better in the X8P than the old (now) Avid purple branded HD interfaces so the people who use HDX today does that for the voice count and not the sound quality. We have HDX2 and the latest HD interfaces and we have compared daily but UA wins everytime all the time.
