PTLE 7 = 48 voices petition

Count me in. I figure Digi has to do something soon. The difference between these DAW programs is becoming more minimal everyday. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the major players out there. I recently did a couple of tests with a friend that has Digital Performer on a 2.5Ghz Mac...1st test was to try and double what I can do on the Digi 002 - we got 64 tracks of audio and over 260 plug-ins (Waves, Sony, Antares)...then we got 120 audio tracks with about 80 plug-ins...all of this running on the built in audio of the Mac!! This was very surprising to me...seems like Digi is limiting more than a couple of features (vs. HD version) and track count.

Don't get me wrong, I love Digi and Pro Tools...been using their products since the Sound Tool days (circa '92). They have a great product...I don't understand what they are worried about. Get rid of the hardware dependency...lower the price of the exisiting hardware and I bet sales would go through the roof. But let me decide what interface I want to use and from what company. Besides, at the end of the day, it's all about the product that goes out the door...hopefully a great song and a happy client.

The new upgrade is called a Music Toolkit from what I was told and will be a similar add on to the DV Toolkit. It will allow for more tracks and include some plug-ins of some sort. We will know all the details shortly I guess.

Not only did we get 48 tracks, but it's 48 STEREO tracks, and full Beat Detective!!

And for those who said we would NEVER get these features and all the other ridiculious excuses. I guess you dont need to buy it.

Are you sure? It says 48 mono OR 48 Stereo voices. Is there some kind of limitation on using 96 mono voices?

The fact that it says 48 mono of 48 stereo tracks leads me to believe they're now just counting audio tracks as opposed to counting voices. It may just be that they mis-printed it, but I would take the way it's currently worded to read that you can have a total of 48 tracks, whether they're Mono or Stereo is inconsequential.

Ugh. Thats lame. We are technically getting 96 voices, i.e. the 'ability' to playback 96 audio files at once, but limited to 48 total tracks I guess. I wonder if we still will be able to have more than 48 tracks in a session, just not playing back..

whatever. Im happy for the added voices. It will totally get me out of being backed against a wall now. Im very happy they listened. Thanks Digi!

Yeah, sorry I'm not totally sure on this... just that 48 stereo tracks would be 96 voices, unless there's a completely different way of voicing tracks in PTLE 7.1. Maybe you can go up to 96 kHz with 48 mono voices & only up to 48 kHz with 48 stereo tracks. The minutia will be revealed. It still totally rocks. I can use stereo tracks, no worries! I just hope us who have already forked out $995USD for DV Toolkit (1) can get some sort of discount for DV Toolkit 2...
