Default Looking for a MIDI Controller for ProTools LE 7.4

I am looking to purchase a MIDI controller for ProTools LE 7.4 (seeing as the interface doesn't exactly promote pointing and clicking all my notes) and I was wondering what kinds of setups people are using and what works.

I am running a Vista Laptop with ProTools LE 7.4 and an Mbox 2 Mini, I was hoping to pick up a USB MIDI controller but I'm not sure ProTools would support it.

So, any suggestions?

you might want to read up a little more; Pro Tools fully supports manually entering notes and other MIDI data (via "point and click") with the pencil tool.

Pro Tools fully supports USB MIDI controllers and interfaces.

Currently, I recommend any of the M-Audio Axiom series, but there are plenty of other good ones out there.

Thanks man, still pretty new to ProTools.

btw I know you can point and click with the pencil tool, what I was trying to say is it is far from user friendly (in my opinion), and using a MIDI controller would make things much easier

M-Audio Oxygen 8 25Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller
I picked up one of these on E bay for $75 and it works well with Pro Tools, Reason, Live and every other program I have tried.
Great for writing and for triggering or tapping out drum parts too.

My main concern is the USB connection. Since I am not running ProTools M-Powered and I don't have a MIDI hook-up on my MBox 2 Mini I wanted to make sure ProTools would recognize the controller if it was plugged into a USB port, still haven't got one but I am gonna order an Axiom tomorrow if everything is cool.

The USB connection is not a problem at all. It's how most people are connecting these days.

Novation ReMOTE SL series with Automap 2.0 (avail beta only http://mail.focusrite.com/beta/remote_sl/ but expect official release soon).

Seriously sorted.

There ain't a single better MIDI controller keyboard for RTAS FX and synths right now.

Hey man,

I am sorry to bug you but I read your response on a thread about midi controllers and thought you might be able to help me. I just purchased an axiom 61 and i am having a hell of a time getting it to do what i think it should be able to do. So far I have gotten it to operate the transport controls, and its great with strike, my virtual drummer plugin. Im readin manuals and tryin everything i can. I cant get the faders to control the volume faders in the mix window. I would so greatly appreciate whatever direction you can provide to getting me pointed in the right direction. I am using pro tools 7.3. with digirack 002. Whatever you can and are willing to help me with Id really appreciate it.

Thank you

I don't use Strike but in Expand, which is made by the same people, you have to hold contol down and click the fader (on screen) you want to controll with your controller. A window should open, you can select "Learn" or "Assign" or "Forget" ...select assign and then find the fader you want to have the control in the list. Your manual for your Axiom should have a list of what all the keys and faders are. Hope that helps. If you select "Learn" and them move the actual fader on your controller it might pick up the signal...I have a CME controller and it learns but never remembers.
I'm somewhat new to this as well.
