Default 9073 Error on ANY drive

My old configuration crashed, so I put in a new SATA drive and SIIG Texas Instruments Chipset Firewire PCI Express x1 card.

I'm not even recording many tracks, I've got 7 tracks of audio and am trying to track one at a time on top of it.

But I get the 9073 error (can't get audio from the drive fast enough) on 2 separate external FW drives I've tried, and even on a separate internal IDE drive.

Then I tried putting back up my old setup and keep getting 6086 errors (H/W Buffer Size). This configuration used to work PERFECTLY...

Here is my computer:
-Pro Tools version 7.3.1cs7 w/Digi 003r
-Asus M2N-E Motherboard
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADX6000CZBOX
-A-DATA 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
-BIOSTAR GeForce 7300LE Supporting 256MB(128MB On board) 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card
-SIIG FireWire 2-Port PCIe Model NN-E20012-S2

When you say old and new configuration did you reinstall the OS? I'm asking because I just reinstalled XP on a MBP through "bootcamp" and was trying to find out why I had the same errors. It turned out to be unchecking the screen edge effects in the system appearance advance tab and the 9073 errors went away. EDIT: Basically I'm asking if you did the windows XP optimizations on the new install.

Do you have the latest mobo drivers for the chipset?

Check in your BIOS how the setting for SATA is.

Maybe you need a newer BIOS?

Yeah I've done all the optimizations, and I'm literally unplugging my new drive and plugging my old drive and trying both separately... both giving separate error messages.

Good call TCM... What SATA settings do I need? It doesn't seem like you can really change anything in the BIOS for it

I recommend to check your mobo manual.
There should be s section about BIOS settings which should tell you how to configure your SATA hard drive.

Also make sure that your HD is connected to the first SATA port.

hope that helps.

Most new motherboards really don't care which port you hook up to because in the bios you can set which HD to boot from. That being said, there's no harm in hooking up to port 0 or 1 ether.

Ok I tried everything suggested here and am still getting the 9073 error.

Updated BIOS to newest version, updated chipset drivers, etc.

It's weird because the error is saying it's a probably a firewire drive issue, even though I'm recording to a separate internal drive... (The problem seems even worse when I try an external FW drive)

Mostly frustrating because this setup worked great before!!

Are you still running 7.3.1? After reading your original post again, if you're running PT 8 with these problems it could be your AMD processor. Try loading the optimized setting in your bios again. If you're still running 7.3.1 and the ONLY difference is a new hardrive, then try defragging if you didn't already. Sometimes that will help. It has helped me in the past.

Yes I'm still running 7.3.1, and I'll try defragging again tonight, but I'm getting the same error on multiple drives.

Is it possible that this error could be stemming from the 003 itself??
