Default Is this expected CPU usage ??

Ok, so Im new to PT.

I am using PTLE 6.9.2cs4
My Mac is a Dual 1.8 G5 revB, with 2Gb RAM

I have a basic project with the following:

6 stereo audio tracks
6 mono audio tracks
1 midi track (routed to Spectrasonics Trilogy)

I have 4 send busses configured
I have 4 Sub Mix busses configured
I have 6 Master Output busses configured.

I am using the following plugins (total)

1 x McDSP AC1
1 x McDSP AC2
2 x WaveArts TrackPlug
2 x 7 Band EQ3 (with just 1 HPF activated on each
1 x Digi Compressor
1 x Digi Limiter

1 x UAD-1 Fairchild on the DRUM Master Output.

and of course 1 x Spectrasonics Trilogy on an Aux Input track.

Every audio track also has 2 x UAD-1 DelayComp (which shouldnt eat any noticable CPU)

This project has CPU at 80% +

A comparable project in my other DAW (SX3) has the CPU at around 30%

Surely something is wrong here ? Is this to be expected ?

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance!

Ben

The when using either the UAD or Powercore cards (obviously via the VST-RTAS Wrapper) ...there is quite a big CPU hit. Spectrasonics will probably be putting in it's 2 cents as well.

Disable these, and see if the meter drops below 10,000 RPM.

Thanks for your reply - Ive tried that - maybe it drops 5-7% after removing those.

So this IS unusually high CPU usage ?

At least thats positive..something to work toward...

I have a very similar system and that session would probably tick over at about 25%CPU on mine. I have 2.5G RAM though.

I only run into the 80-90% cpu usage area when im running Reason and Live in rewire mode and 32 tracks of audio with maybe 10-15 waves delays and TC reverbs and waves compressors on almost everything.

I must admit I dont have Trilogy so maybe thats what is causing the problems?....

Hmmm very interesting. Thank you Squint..

Just to check I am reading the guage correctly - I assume its linear from 0% to 100% ?

Do you also have UAD's ?

Thanks in advance
