Default Mp3 bounce garbled

I'm bouncing to disk, acoustic guitar tracks with bass, drums and percussion. No matter what quality settings I use, the acoustic is slightly garbled as if it were time stretched a bit. It wasn't.

Plays back in the session perfectly. When I listen to the bounce in the workspace, or out of it, it still sounds garble/distorted.

Any ideas?

Bounce as a WAV and do the mp3 conversion in iTunes to see if it's any better.

I did what you suggested and it is better. The bounce to .wav played fine in the workspace. I open itunes imported the .wav then made an mp3 version in itunes. It was not as good as the .wav... thinner sounding but none of the warbling like you were tweaking a flanger.

So what does this mean? Is this a PT8 bug? I never had this issue with previous versions of PT.

Is anyone else having bounce to mp3 sound quality issues in PT8? If not... any suggestions as to mp3 bounce settings or other areas of chasing this down?

I know in general mp3 degrades the sounds but this seems exceptionally bad. Why would it seem to only effect the acoustic guitars? Does it matter if the acoustic tracks are set to ticks or sample based... either during tracking or during bounce to disc? I wouldn't think so as a bounce to .wav is fine. Again... never had this mp3 issue with 7.4. I've run out of ideas...???

i'm having troubles when bouncing to disc my session as wav in PTLE im using a macbook pro with audiofiles on an external disc (WD). My mix sounds completely distorted once bounced specially the drums and bass which sound with a huge reverb and distortion. I have managed to work this out remixing my session at a much lower volume but when bounced the lack of volume is obvious either on itunes or when burned to a disc. Any ideas?.

Not to state the obvious but using the best settings and the highest bit rate etc in the Fraunhofer algorythm which is the default/only MP3 encoding option in PT has never given me problems.

Fraunhofer are pioneers in low bitrate encoding and these problems sound really strange.

With other MP3 encoders I have definately ran into the kind of troubles your talking about King3.
Did you buy your MP3 option as a single licence or with a bundle like DVTK1 or DVTK2?
maybe if you bought it with the 1st DVTK it may be a slightly dated version but then again it's a really long shot.

In your situation all I would do 1st install latest cs updates which should trash prefs any how and try again.

Good luck, Baris
