BM Intensity pro 4K and Monterey

Hi,

i recently try to update from Mojave to Monterey my system.
Everything went fine, except with Black Magic Intensity pro 4K and pro tools.

I succeed to make the card work with BM driver 12.0
but after a day of work, the image begins to slow down and loose the sync.
It's repeatable and only occurs after a few minutes of playback.

Monterey 12.6
Tried with Pro tools HDX2 2023.6
and 2021.12 with same issue.


anyone with same setup ?

You're using an unrecommended driver.

You'd want 12.4.2. See here:

I will give it a try.

I had problems to make the card recognized by the system and BM desktop app.
I tried, 12.5, 12.4, 12.2 without success. i will try 12.4.2, and maybe others to try to catch the good one...

In case you don't known this, the BM driver is a kernel extension so you have to give it permission to be installed in the security settings of OSX. Maybe that's why the card doesn't activate?
You only have to do this once after installation but if you don't OSX will prevent the driver from loading on startup.

I followed the installation procedure precisely.

I will make a few tests tomorrow and will post the results.

Ok, good luck. I do have that driver running on Monterey with my card so in principle it should work.

So i made a few tests :

- With all drivers after 12.1, my intensity pro 4K isn't recognized by BM desktop app. I tried all of them without success.

- Before 11.7, the card is recognized but protools doesn't want to read the image.

- From 11.7 to 12.1, the card is recognized, pro tools works but i have this strange bug, after 10/12 minutes, the image begins to stutter, and the sync is loosed.

I tried both with pro tools 2023.6 and protools 2021.10 when the card is recognized but I have to investigate further to be sure that it's driver relative and not MacOS or something in my setup, memory i don't know. I will try to read wihout drivers at all, with my Video Projector as a 4th monitor and see what happens.
I see also quite cheap BM Declinck SDI card...like you Frank.

OK, that sounds very strange. All I can add at this point is that I have been running my card for many years and I've never seen it not being recognised and I'm currently on the recommended 12.4.2 version (which is the one tested and recommended by AVID with 23.6) with zero stutter or sync issues.
The ones to avoid are the 11.5 and 11.6 ones as mentioned on the page I posted earlier. Those 2 have drift issues.

I tried without drivers at all and no problem running the image for long time.
I guess i need another card that will be recognized by BM drivers 14.2

Well that's even more strange. I don't think any of the BM cards work without installing a driver.
