Retrospect Tape Storage Recovery
Wondering if anyone has a suggestion on this.
I have 3 Data Tapes containing Pro Tools sessions and audio that were made back in 2001. These backups were made using the Retrospect software and a Sony AIT Drive. Does anyone have a suggestion on how or where I could try to recover the info on these backups? It has been several years since the system has been available to me, and I don't know anyone that has a similar tape system anymore. Thanks! |

Re: Retrospect Tape Storage Recovery
Depends on where you're at.
common software and hardware so I'd think it would be possible to find a place that could recover for you

Re: Retrospect Tape Storage Recovery
I am in Chicago, IL.
But would be willing to mail the tapes to anywhere that could do this recovery. |

Re: Retrospect Tape Storage Recovery
Chicago should have someplace that can restore it your you.
you could try calling some of the post houses and see if they have what is needed or a computer tech service (if the files are SD2 be careful of what the get restored to

how so? is there a particular hangup with SD2 files? I think the audio files are SD2. |

Re: Retrospect Tape Storage Recovery
SD2 files will get damaged (resource fork gets striped) if they get put on a FAT or NTFS formated hard drive

Re: Retrospect Tape Storage Recovery
If you haven't found anyplace yet, try Dubway Studios in NYC. They use only macs, and have been using retrospect for over 10 years. They could transfer files for you. This is a time consuming process, in that you must rebuild the catalogue from the tapes themselves (unless you have a copy of the catalogue file). Then doing some forensic work to make sure you get everything. Then burning to DVD's or transferring to your drive.
