I have since read that the riser that was installed for the iPad mini makes the iPad lean forward and using a standard size iPad I did have to thread the cable in front of the unit in between some soft knobs. If I take out the riser the cable is indeed out of site but I don't like the angle the iPad sits so I'll continue to use the riser and feed the cable in front. No Problem. In my previous post I also mentioned that some of the automation buttons were not working. I installed the latest user / app sets and all problems seem to be fixed. I need to start from scratch customizing the things I had set up before.

So regarding the dock needing 12.5 I can say its working just fine with 11.3.2 I'm not ready to update a stable working 11 system in the middle of some projects. Upgrading from the artist control to the dock is enough change for now.

The one with the cable routed in front is with the iPad mini riser in (I like this angle) the one with the cable more hidden behind is with the riser out.

Thanks for the pictures, Sean. Now I know what the problem is. Which angle I prefer is hard to tell without sitting in front of the dock. A right-angle cable seems to be the solution. I saw one from Belkin for 15 Euros, Griffin sells them in a bundle of 10 only...
Another thing is the lack of portability of EuCon settings. I use my Artist Control with various computers and copied my settings via the app set. As we need a new app set for the dock to work properly, do we have to reallocate all the user soft key settings? Or is there a possibility to copy them?

... looks like this one might be a tight squeeze (if indeed it even fits).

Considering the inherent risk with buying any i-device dock (i.e. the possibility that Apple design changes affect their use with future models), and with this being a relatively 'expensive' dock at that, surprising that Avid have not done better with the cable management + how it works with current iPads, for such a new product ... maybe they primarily expect wireless use?!

Avid must be aware of this so hopefully there's a plan ... before too many get out into the field and users encounter issues sourcing a suitable cable. Maybe we'll see the occasional DUC Griffin cable 'group buy' :)

Wireless use? As Pro Tools Control uses the iPad all the time you wouldn't get a whole workday with a fully charged one. That's my experience using the app without dock.

Agreed Mark ... thus would be ironic if that's how Avid see this being used, as it doesn't appear that the cabling is ideal as it stands. Maybe they should have bundled a right-angle cable, at least to get you started?
