Default MH ULN-8 and Lynx Aurora 16

trying to plan where i send my hard earned $. i do location recording as well as audio post, so i need a rig that has a lot of inputs, but also the best sound possible for the $ and a small-ish footprint.

so i'm thinking of getting:
- a new mac pro (8 core)
- a MH Labs ULN-8 as my "main front end" and monitor controller
- a Lynx Aurora 16 w/the LT-HD card to jack into my Native PT card

thinking is, i mainly will be fine w/ the ULN-8 for small recordings either in-studio or on-location. for larger location recordings, i use the Lynx to get me up to 32 more inputs (16 analog, 16 aes/ebu).

so, i would love someone smarter than me (any of you) to give me the thumbs up that PT will be able to aggregate the 2 different units for up to 40 inputs (including the 8 aes/ebu inputs from the ULN-8) in my full dream-set-up.

i appreciate anyone's input/thoughts/caveats on this subject.

cheers,
marty.

There is no better value out there, considering you would actually use the 16 Analog and 16 AES I/O together. If you're really not going to use the AES, then there are other ways to go.

As far as straight conversion for HD capable I/O here are my favorites.

Apogee AD/DA 16's
Lynx Auora
Apogee Rosetta
Digi 192 I/O

The Apogee unites can be had pretty cheap these days used. Lynx has held there value which is very good considering that all the others are dropping fast. Today you can get a 192 for less than 1100.00. There is a guy at Gearslutz right now wiht a 192 with 16 A/D and 8 D/A for 1200.00.

AD/DA 16's can be had for 1600.00 used these days. And unless you're using an Analog Desk, you don't need all that many D/A's. Then again, you may have a wall of Outboard and you do.
