So far the best choice is the ASUS P5WDG2 WS Professional

What slot order is everyone running in this motherboard? I have this board running an HD 4 with the core in the slot closest to the graphics card. Is that the common config? Also, I have 4 gigs of ram installed and XP is only seeing 2 gigs. I know XP will not see more then 3.25 gigs or so but I'm only seeing 2gigs. Does anyone know how to make xp see more ram. On my old XW9300 it was a bios setting.
Thanks,
Brandon

Brandon

I don't have that particular board but my P5LD2, P5K Deluxe WiFi and my P5B Deluxe WiFi all have a option for MEMORY REMAPPING in the BIOS. Its usually under the CHIPSET or NORTHBRIDGE configuration section. I'm seeing 3.25-3.5 with XP Home and 3.23 with Server 2003

Hi brandonx1,
unfortunatly this board has no such settings in the BIOS. I hassled around with RAM as well. Finaly i flashed to BIOS 0905, now I at least have something like 3GB available. It is a BIOS/ASUS issue for shure.
good luck

I just updated my HD4/Accel system with a Gigabyte P35 board. It has 5 PCI slots and works perfectly. CPU is the Q6600 with 2GB Corsair ram.
I can't see how anyone would need more power than this!!

Regards,
Bruce

yes i am using this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128084
so far so good. it can fit hd 3 without any problems. you just have to insert hd cards starting with core card in the pci slot 5 and work backwards from there. one day i will try putting another hd card in this computer to make an HD 4 machine. the 4th card will be a slight problem because it will line up directly over your first sata connector. i think with a right angle sata cable(with the angle in the correct direction) the card should clear,it will be tight .
so far i had one major problem with this build. in my first session with this machine i did encounter a windows file getting corrupted and i did have to do a windows repair.don't know why it happened 100% but i think it may be due to forgeting to disable windows restore. not sure on that.
otherwise this is the 2nd full weekend of using my new intel quad. baring that first incident, the machine has run all weekend long with no problems.
hey rob maybe one day this week i will give you an update on things. sorry, ive been so busy using this new quad. talk soon and to the original poster good luck. if you have any questions, i will be glad to answer them.
Thanks X9blade I liked this mobo but the chipset is Intel P35 is it compalible with pro tools I want to use my pcix pro tools cards hd3 and do it supports the core 2 quad Q9450 2.66 GHZ 1066 MHZ and the ram i want to use the OCZ Reaper HPC 4DB(2x2 GB) 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC 8500) dual channel kit desktop memory Modle ocz2rpr10664gk.

Please let me know if it is the Intel P35 chipset is OK for the PT HD3.

Best regards for all

Abdullah

CRNA i've been using the ga p35 s3g for quite a few months. machine runs great especially with lots of vi's going but, occasionaly i get a problem with glitchy audio. have you expierienced any problem of this type?

finally gigabyte released a new bios on july 17 2008. i installed the new bios 2 nights ago and haven't had a glitch yet. before the new bios i would get some very high green peaks and sometimes peaking into the yellow in DPC latency check. i always thought this could be a problem.

after installing new bios peaks in DPC latency checker are all almost none. hopefully the new bios will cure my random audio glitching. that was the only reason for me not posting about this board. not much time since i built the machine to really troubleshoot, i use it too much to be down.
now with the new bios i will see if my occasional glitching goes away and post my results.

like crna states its a pretty cool board having 5 pci slots together and you can't beat the price. i believe i paid $79.00 for this mobo.

p.s. i run sessions mostly in the 100 track range with many vi's and plugs machine never runs out of power

forgot to mention, after pulling my machine apart, and rearranging some things, i was able to put my hd cards in the proper order (starting on the lowest number pci slot. right angle sata cables are needed with this board
