Default The operating system held off interrupts too long

Quad core 3.0 ghz Mac pro
4GB ram
DIGI 002
OS 10.4.9
PT LE 7.3.1 cs5

Hello all.

"The operating system held off interrupts too long"

I know a great deal has been written on this subject. I have read everything I could find on this error. I have tried everyone's suggestions. Nothing is fixing it.

Playback engine settings have been tweaked in every possible combination.

I have made a special Boot drive with a minimal OS and no applications installed except Pro Tools. The sessions are on another drive.

A recent post said, you have to use an external drive. The transfer rate on my internal drive is 3.0 Gbs per second. But OK, fine, I hook up a firewire drive on its own port. It made no difference.

Allegedly, my new computer is fast. I played some of my compositions with the activity monitor open. Even without active plugins, protools will overclock the CPU. It goes over 100% and gives the error.

4 X 4ghz processors overclocked to play 8 tracks. This seems to be the source of the problem.

However, since upgradiing to cs5, when recording in a new session, one track, no plugs or inserts, it gives the error, even thought the % of cpu usage stays around 70%.

An 8 track composition uses a lot of cpu power even when it sits idle. My feeling here is that there is something wrong with the application.

I hope I am wrong. After all these minor CS patch releases they seem to be trying to fix issues, how could they ignore such a glaring problem? Simply put, I am unable to work.

If anyone has a solution for this, include your full name if you are so inclined, and I will name my first born after you.

Thanks

EA

I'm with you, and I'm glad to see your post (sad for you) if only so that I don't go out and buy an external drive as yet another "fix" to this problem. I agree, how can Digidesign overlook a problem that so many people are having? I only need to record one voice track and I can't don it with stability.

Best of luck. I'll pass on any updates I have, as I have hope that there is a solution out there.

Is the 002 connected to the front or rear firewire 400 port of the Mac Pro?

I had the same problem and added a firewire pci express card to my computer and ran the external hard drive off the pci card.
Never had any problems since then.
Hope that helps.

Can I ask which firewire card?

Well, I hope my firstborn is a boy, because I don't think a girl would like the name yellowjacket very much.

Thanks dude.

I saw the specs on the motherboard, and I could swear both ports are dedicated 800 ports each with its own bus, but I guess not. There was a thruput issue on that front port. I moved the 1394 connector to the back of the machine, and the damn thing just played back a 20 track comp with virtual instruments and plug ins all over the place. CPU consumption stays at a steady 70%.

unreal.

long live the DUC!

I bought the SIIG card, which is approved by Digi.
I think if you do a search on the site, it will show you the exact model.
The main thing the card does is to keep the interface and any other devices such as external hard drives on a different bus.
