no difference in sound quality
Just received the lucid 9624 ad converter and although I didnt have enough time yesterday to fully check the sound quality, I want to know if Im doing something wrong since I didnt hear any difference between using it and not. My setup is Alesis QS6.1 keyboard>(via trs cable)>Grace Design 101 pre>(via xlr)>lucid 9624>(via coaxial digital cable)>Digi001(spdif in). I set Protool's sync to external and the lucid's sync to internal and the sample rate to 44.1 on both Protools and Lucid. Maybe the difference is not noticeable much until mixing or maybe my Event PS6 monitors are not good at that. Maybe I should burn a CD to compare or keep trying today with other instruments/mics. Any thoughts?

Re: no difference in sound quality
I have a possible suggestion. If your PC can handle the extra "load", try upping to 48k from 44.1k ,and try letting ProTools control the sync by setting it to internal and everything else to external.
I use an Aphex1100 mic pre (set to 96k, digital out via spdif) to a TC Finalizer96k (samples down to 48k, digital out via spdif) to Protools and I let ProTools control the sync. Works very well that way. When I let the Finalizer96k control the sync ProTools acts wierd with little pops and click noises, even though everything is set to 48k. Just a suggestion, hope it helps.

Re: no difference in sound quality
rems you have a cool setup with the Grace and the Lucid hard to believe you don't notice any difference. Do a couple of different experiments and post back your results compared to using the Digis pre-amplifiers.

Re: no difference in sound quality
Perhaps instead of using the lucent, you should sell the QS 6.1 and get a 7.1 or 8.1. These would have Digital outputs, and you could just skip the whole preamp, convertor thing in general...
Just a thought.
