Default Why is Pro Tools so sensitive

I'm really sick of Pro Tools (9). I don't understand why whenever ANYTHING out of the ordinary goes wrong, it crashes. Kontakt crashes...pro tools crashes...to much ram used....pro tools crashes. Why can't Pro Tools just tell me to chill out on something, and keep going? I know this sounds babyish, but it really is perplexing why the developers didn't put some kind of buffer btw errors and pro toll's ability to function.

If you'd post some details about your system (see sandra report above) we could probably help you sort this out. True, Pro Tools is finicky (one of my favorite engineers calls it a DIVA) but if you follow their recommendations with your hardware setup and DON'T TRY TO CUT ANY CORNERS it'll work quite nicely. I'm crazy busy in here, and wouldn't use ANYTHING that didn't get the job done. (Note that I went from 8 straight to 10, now on 11.1.3) Follow this link and get us a sandra report and let's see what we can figure out. Cuz it really does ROCK. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=300050

sorry to disagree sw rec but I think you are wrong! Call it a diva or call it a pita! Makes no difference to me. I started out with M-audio I/O's quite a while ago and once past the beginners learning curve it was a pretty enjoyable experience. Even the Audiophile 2496 worked almost flawlessly. Then came Pro Tools 9 and nothing but problems since. At least for me. Avid should never have advertised, "Works with any Interface or no interface at all"! For you lucky ones who can afford the HD stuff, and I'm not saying all the problems go away with HD, there certainly seems to be a smoother and more trouble free operation! I've said before and I say again. A pro studio wouldn't last one week with Pro Tools 9 and Windows 7. But then again pros would have better sense!

This is probably your culprit right here. CPU onboard graphics are not welcomed.....you have a desktop go get a $100 video card.....it may make a huge difference. It will definitely take a huge load off your CPU

This should be your C drive (your SSD).....personally and your 1TB seagate should be your Recording target.....imho . Not a deal breaker but that's what I would do.

Don't use this for anything but a backup drive....severely under adequate. and trying to stream East West CCC off of this drive is asking for problems.........Let him who has an ear hear.

you should really update your Win7 - I believe service pack 3 is out...

and since we are at it....you really need to verify if you have done the Windows Optimizations. Important

Hi Terry! One thing I haven't had to (or wanted to) do is even try a 3rd party interface. Quite happy with the old 003 console, which of course will become frikkin' obsolete if and when we get PT 12. So MY "EOS" could very conceivably be right here. And I also never tried PT9. Went from 8 on an 002 right to 10-11 on an 003. Hope YYR's suggestions help!

It was a decision that they made b/c everybody in music was asking for it....

They also needed to do it to stay relevant for a large swath of the market (ie everyone else besides Pro studios)

Imagine me wanting to use the cutting edge Saffire range interface (2009) and not being able to use PT with it....well I might just switch DaW's and Avid sure didn't want that, so it had to be done for better or worse

Wow, YYR123, this is great, thanks! I'm actually gonna hopefully build a custom pc in a week or so, so I'll make sure to integrate your points when i set up the new system. I'm gonna have ssd's for ALL the drives then.

Really good point with the cpu graphics, didnt think of that. I already picked out a good one for the new pc.

Also, what do you mean by "windows optimizations"? Can you point me somewhere that will guide me?

For anyone contemplating building a custom computer I'd suggest they first read this, or at least toward the end of the thread (latest info) since it is so long.
